WE WERE JUST HERE Album Cover

Just Mustard are a shoegaze/noise/trip-hop band from Ireland

I have been a fan of this band since the release of the 2nd album in 2022 (Heart Under) and have absolutely hammered it since, and have waited patiently for this 3rd release. I have only had the chance to see them once at a festival so I'm looking forward to seeing them on their full tour next year in April 2026.

This new album is slightly less abrasive than Heart Under across the board and takes on a more melodic approach, whilst keeping in the same vein as previous albums.

Saying that the 1st track on the album POLLYANNA kicks off with some massive blasts of distortion and high pitch sirens before the vocals (Katie Ball) overrides this with her floaty vocals.

SILVER is another great track which moves forwards with dual vocal duties by Katie and guitarist David Noonan. Taking it in turns verse by verse and then coming together at the end sounds cool, but at the same time this makes me feel anxious the way it keeps building and teetering on the edge.

Taken at YES Pink Room 02/09/2023

DREAMER sparse riffs during the verses and then a warpy Guitar riff during the chorus. A ghostly ethereal track before it kicks off again.

The Title track WE WERE JUST HERE is one of the best songs they have recorded, it starts off with a heavy oscillating warble into a soaring chorus before the grinding/glitchy verse kicks back in, finishing with an oppressive climax of noise. This is going to sound great live.

Overall defo worth the wait for this follow up album, supporting The Cure and Fontaines DC I hope big things are happening for them in 2026.
